Omschrijving

*ENGLISH TEXT BELOW

Walk-in-closet, need I say more?

*ENGLISH TEXT
Superb apartment (ca. 125m² (NEN 2580)) on the fourth floor of the famous ‘Wolkenkrabber’ (skyscraper) designed by J.F. Staal, beloved student of famous architect H.P. Berlage, in 1930 in Amsterdam-Zuid. This was the first tall residential building in the Netherlands and is now a National Monument. It is a home with light and allure between the Rembrandt Tower and Zuid-as, 270-degree glass all around, a phenomenal view whilst still offering plenty of privacy. The residence is perfectly situated near the Rai and Amstel railway stations and the new Noord-Zuidlijn metro. The centre of Amsterdam and Schiphol are within easy reach.

The ‘Wolkenkrabber’ is located in the Plan Zuid area, which was designed by Berlage in 1917. The building is located on the crossroads of three monumental avenues: Churchilllaan, Rooseveltlaan and Vrijheidslaan. Each of its eleven floors was originally split up into two mirrored six-room apartments. These adjoin the stairwell so there are no direct neighbours. Staal used materials that became characteristic of the Nieuwe Bouwen (or ‘new construction’), such as concrete, steel and glass. The central shaft with two lifts was extraordinary not only at the time, but remains unique today.

The fourth floor may well be the most beautiful one, offering a view of the roofs, amid the verdant green of poplars, whilst still staying in contact with the world of human experience. The view at the front is metropolitan, with the Berlagebrug (Berlage Bridge) on the horizon and the statue of Berlage just outside the door. The back view is almost that of a village, including the small Merwedeplein park with its status of Anne Frank who lived there from 1932 until 1942. The evening sunsets are stunning seen from the west-facing back of the residence.

A large-scale renovation costing three million euros was recently completed, replacing all steel frames, doors, and original windows in the course of works managed by Welstand. Steel and pivot doors opening to the outside world were preserved in line with the elegant look & feel of the original design, whilst modern energy-saving and sound-insulating double glazing was added.

LAYOUT
Shared elegant entrance on the ground floor, stairs or lift to the fourth floor. The front door with its characteristic porthole opens onto the apartment. Hallway with wardrobe and authentic details, including a former goods lift that is currently in use to store keys. Second entrance door on the other side of the hallway to the stairwell.

On entering the residence, one immediately notices that high-quality materials were used in the renovation work in an ingenious way and original details were preserved. A fantastic open-plan kitchen with a beautiful wood island with bar section (reflecting the shape of the stairwell), stainless steel section with urban six-burner gas stove and double oven (as well as a coal barbecue!) and hood, separate steam oven (with warming drawer). The spacious china cabinet seems integrated into the wall, as does the double-door refrigerator. An outdoor space is accessible from here. High ceilings and lovely herringbone parquet flooring. Countless windows on virtually every side of the apartment with fantastic views, which were created in part by the well-considered open-plan layout of the living room and the use of sliding door. A comfortable study invites you to work from inspiration gained while gazing outside. With excellent lighting plan including spotlights, the residence is also perfectly appointed in terms of audio (Bose). The master bedroom is large and opens onto a balcony with a view of the quiet, verdant Merwede neighbourhood. An elegant colour scheme was chosen for the luxurious bathroom, which features a bathtub, walk-in shower, and double washbasin with unique mirror cabinets. There is also a walk-in-closet. There is a large toilet and lots of storage space in the custom-built cabinets in the hallway, which are perfectly suited as a laundry space, for instance. A second bedroom can be created quite easily; our estate agent would be pleased to tell you more about this!

The first high-rise project in the Netherlands is located at the point where three monumental roads come together. Centrally located near RAI, Amstel, and Zuidas railway stations, excellent accessibility by car and public transport with tram lines 4 and 12 and bus lines 65 and 62 to the city centre or station. The Rivierenbuurt district boasts countless shops for your daily groceries, as well as wonderful specialty shops, restaurants and coffee rooms.
